Behind an impressive start by Barry St. John, Virginia Beach beat Yakima, 4-2. Ted Green snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 1.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. Andy Lewis locked down his 7th save.
The Hops had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Whales going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old second baseman Miguel Angel Flores came to the plate. Flores hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Yakima hurler Manny Cruz. It was Flores's 16th double of the year.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Flores said.
The Virginia Beach winning streak has reached 3 games.
