The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, knocking off the Virginia Beach Whales, 7-1. Starting pitcher Sloppy Thurston played a key role in the triumph. The win for the Guinea Pigs raised their record to 40-30.

Gwinnett used the timely hitting of Kevin Dorsey to capture the win. The catcher socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 7-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

Dorsey told a Gwinnett Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
