The Richland Rails picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, topping the Virginia Beach Whales, 6-1. On the mound for Richland was right-hander Francisco Chavarría. He played a principal role in the triumph. The 8th-place Rails now sit at 36-37.

Richland won the game in part because of Matt Russell. The right fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Rails ahead, 4-0. For the game, Russell had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Rails manager Eduardo Hernández.
