Hops Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The Yakima Hops, despite a fine performance by Barton Springs pitcher Aaron Arnold, grabbed a 3-2 win at Blues Field. Arnold allowed no runs over 7.1 innings. Teddy Harvey, who is tied for 2nd in the 3AA in complete games with 3, was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Yakima is now 42-38, Barton Springs 47-33.
Brian Kurucz came through with a big-time hit for Yakima. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Afterward, Hops manager Juan Valéncia was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
