Tight Tilt Goes to Whales, 3-2
|
Starting pitcher Daniel Goodwin was a major factor in the 3-2 Virginia Beach Whales triumph over the Squirrel Hill Pierogis. Ric Nelson earned his 2nd save in 3 chances. Squirrel Hill has now lost 5 straight.
Alden Swain had a big 2-run home run for the Whales in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Virginia Beach trailing 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Edgar Bartolini and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Whales on top, 3-2.
"Daniel was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Virginia Beach manager Marv Bradford.
