The Ottawa Fat Cats, despite a fine performance by Billings pitcher Juan Hernández, grabbed a 3-1 win at The Igloo. Hernández allowed 1 run over 6 innings. José Salazaro earned his 7th save in 8 chances. The 10th-place Fat Cats now sit at 37-47.
Ottawa used the timely hitting of Jay Welch to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Fat Cats on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Welch.
