Rainbow Mermaids Edge Shredders, 4-3

The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids did just enough to sneak past the Hollywood Shredders, 4-3, at Atlantica. Northern Virginia pitcher Mitsuo Yoshida, in particular, had a standout performance. Yoshida, now 7-9, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Quinton Barnard got credit for the save for Northern Virginia. It was his 18th of the year.
The Rainbow Mermaids got an important contribution from second baseman Carlos Ríos, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a curveball to left for a solo home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 4-1.
"This was a good win," said Ríos.
The 5th-place Rainbow Mermaids improved to 38-40.
