Barry St. John pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Virginia Beach Whales, despite St. John's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Tacoma Fur Traders at Ballpark of Tacoma. Picking up the win was Henry Coffey. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 0 and walked 2. Getting the save was Francisco Alonzo, his 7th.

Neil Pippy made an early impact for Tacoma when he stroked his 6th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which came with no one out in the bottom of the second, put the Fur Traders on top, 2-0.

"We did just enough to win," Pippy said.

The Fur Traders sit in 6th place in the Menard's AA with a record of 47-46.
