Dolphins Earn Late Win
|
Pine Island first baseman Brian Byrd made his presence felt in the 5-4 Dolphins triumph over the Virginia Beach Whales. Byrd went 3-5 with 3 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. With the win, Pine Island goes to 48-50, while the Whales fall to 55-43.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Freddie Goodman came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Virginia Beach pitcher José Lewis, he hit a first pitch cutter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Pine Island on top, 5-3.
In postgame comments to the Pine Island Observer, Byrd said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
