Guinea Pigs Upend Farmers, 6-5
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs defeated the Lancaster Farmers, 6-5. Right Fielder Bryan Rivers deserved a large share of the credit. Rivers was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Guinea Pigs. The winner was Randy Pierce, who threw 88 pitches over 6 innings. The left-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. Ron Jewell earned his 11th save, after closing out the game.
With Gwinnett leading 4-3 in the top of the fifth, Rivers hit a fastball from Dave Jones for a 2-run double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 6-3.
"It was a solid team effort," said Rivers after the game.
The victory gives the Guinea Pigs a record of 53-47.
