The St. Petersburg Thunder got a superb performance from first baseman Eric Giles, but the Squirrel Hill Pierogis still won the game, 12-9. Giles hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. The win went to Otis Farr in relief, making him now 1-0. Troy Edwards took the loss for St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg now has a record of 4-1.

Squirrel Hill right fielder Jeff McElroy produced at a critical juncture. It happened in the top of the eighth with Troy Edwards on the mound and Squirrel Hill leading 9-8. McElroy hit a sacrifice fly.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Squirrel Hill skipper Ben Cooper.
