Win Goes to Pilgrims in Tight Contest
Providence shortstop Chris Thomas was a significant contributor in his team's 8-5 triumph over the Ithaca Fighting Imps. He was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Pilgrims. Providence reliever Don Smith picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Curt Keeley was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Orlando Sánchez, his 1st.

Mark Welson cracked a home run off Curt Keeley in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run blast put the Pilgrims on top, 6-5. In all, Welson had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
