Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs and St. Petersburg Thunder.
Boosted by the 2-hit performance of Harry Austin the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs defeated the St. Petersburg Thunder, 5-1. J.J. Hebert, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-2. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 7 and walking 3.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bryan Rivers? The 26-year old right fielder Rivers stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Gwinnett up, 5-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Austin told the Gwinnett Bulletin.
The win lifts Gwinnett to a record of 5-7.
