The St. Petersburg Thunder clipped the Asheville Highlanders, 4-1, in 10 innings at Asheville Park. The standout performance belonged to St. Petersburg pitcher and Indianapolis, Indiana, native Stan Coffey. St. Petersburg reliever Keith Greene got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Adam Vinck was tagged with the loss. With the win, St. Petersburg is 10-9.

St. Petersburg used the timely hitting of Carl Flowers to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Thunder on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Coffey called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
