Guinea Pigs Deal Squirrel Hill 3-2 Defeat
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs got a stellar effort from pitcher Cody Beasley, helping Gwinnett score a win over the visiting Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 3-2. The winner was Beasley. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The loser was John Pope. Matt Griffin recorded his 7th save for Gwinnett.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Guinea Pigs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when designated hitter Ken Baker hit a run-scoring single. The single came off John Pope and made the score 3-1, Guinea Pigs. Baker was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Baker told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The Guinea Pigs raised their record to 11-9.
