Boston got a big-time effort from pitcher Nick Hensley, but it wasn't enough to keep the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids from winning the game, 7-2. Hensley threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Ed Davenport was the winner in relief. His record is now 4-1. The losing pitcher was Orlando Díaz. Northern Virginia is now 39-43, Boston 46-36.
José Mondragon drew 1 walk for Northern Virginia. The slugging first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Orlando Díaz. It was his 41st walk of the season.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Mondragon said.
