The Lake Murray MotorBoaters had to overcome a fine effort from St. Petersburg pitcher Stan Coffey to win, 4-3, at Baby Thunder Dome. Coffey went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The second-place MotorBoaters bumped their record to 13-11.

The outcome might have been different for Lake Murray, had it not been for Woody Evans, the 26-year old third baseman . Evans stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put Lake Murray up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said St. Petersburg manager Alejandro Mingo.
