Pona Stars as Turbeaus Top Saboteurs, 5-2
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus beat the Toledo Saboteurs, 5-2, at Mobile Home Park. The win was due in part to right fielder Joaquim Pona, who was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Gulf Coast reliever John Harris picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Lonnie Burton absorbed the loss. The Turbeaus go to 13-11, putting them third in the Silver AA.
Pona had a timely hit for Gulf Coast in the bottom of the eighth. With Gulf Coast trailing 2-1, he turned a 2-2 changeup into a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 5-2, Gulf Coast.
"We all want to win," said Pona. "We all want to do our part."
