Highlanders Rally to Nose Past St. Petersburg
|
The Asheville Highlanders topped the St. Petersburg Thunder, 1-0, in USSL Double A action at Asheville Park. The standout performance belonged to Asheville pitcher and Ocoee, Florida, native Mike Russell. Asheville reliever Dave Wilson picked up the win to move to 1-0. Mike Parkinson suffered the loss. St. Petersburg has now lost 4 consecutive games.
The Highlanders got a clutch hit from shortstop Davey Hester. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Highlanders.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Russell told the Asheville Gazette.
