Northville got a big-time effort from pitcher Sonny Smith, but it wasn't enough to keep the Asheville Highlanders from winning the game, 4-2. Smith threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Asheville now sports a record of 18-9.
Asheville used a clutch hit from Arturo Martas to get the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Martas attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
