Highlanders Beat Gulf Coast, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Asheville Highlanders and the Gulf Coast Turbeaus, 21-year old right-handed pitcher Ray Campbell proved to be the difference. The Asheville right-hander earned props for his performance in the 1-0 Highlanders win. Campbell, now 2-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Asheville has a record of 19-11, placing them first in the Silver AA.
Adrián Salazar's at-bat with one out in the top of the ninth was critical. The Asheville second baseman hit a sacrifice fly, to put his team on top, 1-0. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
Salazar told the Asheville Citizen: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
