Rocketeers Lose to Northern Virginia, 6-4
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Atlantica, knocking off the Seattle Rocketeers, 6-4. Starting pitcher Chris Jackson played a key role in the triumph. Jackson yielded 2 runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. His record improves to 5-8. Northern Virginia goes to 52-32. The win puts them 4 games up in their division.
Tied up with the Rocketeers in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rainbow Mermaids got a boost from second baseman Jason Zimmerman. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Zimmerman saw a full count fastball from Pablo Gonzáles and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Northern Virginia on top, 3-2.
"I like our moxie," said Rainbow Mermaids manager David Lister.
