The Gulf Coast Turbeaus beat the St. Petersburg Thunder, 5-2. Gulf Coast pitcher and Harrodsburg, Kentucky, native Terry Ward led the way. The winner was Ward. He threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Stan Coffey. Kenny Flint finished the game for Gulf Coast and earned his 8th save.

The Turbeaus took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Edward Roberson banged a two-out double. Gulf Coast had been trailing 1-0, but Roberson hit a 0-2 curveball from Stan Coffey for a 2-run double.

"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Alejandro Mingo told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
