The Squirrel Hill Pierogis beat the Gulf Coast Turbeaus, 9-5, at Field of the Rawhides. Tomás Orro, in particular, was impressive. He was 4 for 5 with 4 singles. The win went to Ken Lewis in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Lambert Fierant took the loss. Squirrel Hill is now 25-17, Gulf Coast 22-20.
Had Dave Tucker not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Tucker hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Pierogis.
"I like our moxie," said Pierogis manager Ben Cooper.
