Polar Bears Earn 3-2 Home Win
|
Billings Polar Bears starter Tom Phillips pitched a strong game against the Squirrel Hill Pierogis at The Igloo, leading the Polar Bears to victory, 3-2. Troy Hamilton earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Mark Peterson earned the save for Billings, his 1st.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when right fielder Raúl Gallegos, who is tied for 3rd in the SAA in triples with 2, hit a triple. The Polar Bears went on to win.
"We busted our tails," said Squirrel Hill manager Ben Cooper. "But we came up short."
The win puts the Polar Bears at 20-27, while the Pierogis drop to 25-22.
