Thunder Hawks Fall Short, 3-2, at Toledo
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Toledo Saboteurs and the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, pitcher Salvador Martínez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Toledo right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Saboteurs win. Martínez, the winner, moves to 5-1. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. This loss makes it 8 in a row for Ft. Polk South.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Saboteurs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when third baseman David Sterling hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Rafael Videla and made the score 3-2, Saboteurs. Sterling was 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Salvador pitched like a son-of-a-gun," said Toledo manager Fernando Mendoza.
