Ornelas goes 3-for-4 to Power Thunder Offense
|
Led by Mario Ornelas, the St. Petersburg Thunder downed the Toledo Saboteurs, 6-2. Ornelas went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Thunder. Gustavo Villa, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-5. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. The victory puts St. Petersburg at 24-35.
In the top of the seventh, St. Petersburg catcher Spencer Jeffries had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Toledo hurler Roberto Deleón, Jeffries hit a sacrifice fly. That made the score 3-1, St. Petersburg. For the day, Jeffries went 1-3 with a hit by pitch.
"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Jeffries.
