The Yakima Hops racked up a win at Hops Park, bumping off the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-3. Spencer McCarthy, who started for Yakima, pitched effectively for his team. Earning his 1st save of the year was Kelly McCarthy. The 'W' lifts Yakima's record to 33-26.

Tim Russell helped out the Yakima cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 3 with a walk.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Yakima manager Gerald Clark. "It's usually not just one thing."
