The Asheville Highlanders got a magnificent performance from pitcher José Bojórquez, who muffled the St. Petersburg offense en route to a tight, 3-1 Highlanders win at Asheville Park. The winner was Bojórquez. He threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Juan Torres. Dave Wilson closed it out for Asheville, earning his 7th save.

The Highlanders had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-1, Asheville, with two out. St. Petersburg, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Jarrod Harris dug in at the plate, but on a 0-2 slider, he struck out.
