Polar Bears Suffer One-Run Loss at St. Petersburg
|
Led by James Payton, the St. Petersburg Thunder downed the Billings Polar Bears, 4-3. Payton went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Thunder. The winning pitcher was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Torres. He tossed 97 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. Arturo Martínez earned the save, his 9th, for the Thunder.
Willie Dale went 1 for 2. He drove in 2 runs for St. Petersburg. The 24-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ramón Santos. It was his 42nd RBI of the season.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Payton. "And not try to do too much."
The Thunder go to 36-34, putting them 4th in the Silver AA.
