Thunder Hand Pilgrims 8-4 Loss
|
The St. Petersburg Thunder topped the Providence Pilgrims, 8-4, at Field of Plenty. St. Petersburg catcher Stanley Lewis was a spark plug for the offense. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. John Bowen was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. The 6th-place Thunder lifted their record to 35-38.
A key moment came with one out in the top of the fifth. That's when Lewis hit a changeup from Ed Lemay for a run-scoring single, putting St. Petersburg up, 5-4.
"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Lewis told the St. Petersburg News.
