Murphy Powers Rainbow Mermaids to 9-6 Win
|
James Murphy was a major contributor to the 9-6 Northern Virginia win over Boston. The Rainbow Mermaids left fielder went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Juan Carlos Mejía picked up the save for Northern Virginia, his 24th of the year. Northern Virginia goes to 54-34. The win puts them 4 games up in their division.
Murphy contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Northern Virginia in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-0, Murphy took a fastball from David Sullivan and stroked the home run to center. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Rainbow Mermaids to leap in front, 3-2.
"We've got a great group of guys," Murphy said, "and we're having fun right now."
