The Asheville Highlanders overcame a good performance by Gulf Coast first baseman Randy Stokes to knock off Gulf Coast, 6-5, at Asheville Park. Stokes was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Asheville reliever Rick Behan picked up the win, raising his record to 2-2. Hidetada Hasegawa was tagged with the loss. The first-place Highlanders are now 44-31, the Turbeaus 36-39.

Arturo Martas's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the game tied, 3-3. The Asheville left fielder hit a run-scoring single off David Uribe to put the Highlanders up.

"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Martas.
