Mockingbirds Come Up Short at Northern Virginia, 4-3
Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids and Memphis Mockingbirds.

Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids starter Kip Hill pitched well against the Memphis Mockingbirds at Atlantica, leading his team to a win, 4-3. Hill yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 9-5.

The Mockingbirds had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Rainbow Mermaids going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Ramón Galló came to the plate. Galló hit a grand slam home run on a first pitch cutter from Memphis hurler P.J. O'Day. It was Galló's 6th home run of the year.

"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Beau Carsten, the Memphis manager.

Memphis's current losing streak is now 7 games.
