The Marquette Miners spoiled a good performance by Chesapeake shortstop Nathan Dixon, bumping off Chesapeake, 5-4, at Ghost Crab Park. Dixon hit 2 home runs. Tony O'Connor, now 4-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. Earning his 6th save of the year was Ray Duncan.

Marquette used the timely hitting of Curt Hicks to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Miners on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Marquette manager Andrés Pérez.

The first-place Miners have won 4 in a row.
