Marquette Rallies for 4-2 Win
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Carter King into a win. Instead, the Marquette Miners prevailed, 4-2. King threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Marquette reliever Pedro Hernández got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Steve Calhoun was tagged with the loss. The save went to Jody Dunn, his 19th this season.
Juan González came through with a big-time hit for Marquette. The left fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 4-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Bottom line," said Gulf Coast skipper Melvin McCullough, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The third-place Miners are now 50-39, the Turbeaus 52-37.
