5 Straight Wins for Miners
|
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks got a sterling performance from pitcher Ken Rhodes, but the Marquette Miners still prevailed, 5-3. Rhodes threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Marquette pitcher Mike Schmitt got the win, upping his record to 10-5. Adam Hill got the loss. Ray Duncan earned his 9th save in 11 chances.
Marquette used a timely hit from Fernando Hernández to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Miners ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"I like how we're playing right now," said Hernández.
The Miners, now 55-36, have won 5 in a row.
