The Squirrel Hill Pierogis knocked off the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 4-3, in USSL Double A action at Experimental Stadium. Squirrel Hill pitcher and Evanston, Illinois, native José Contreras had an outstanding performance. Otis Farr earned the save, his 20th, for the Pierogis. Gwinnett, at 47-45, has lost 4 straight.
Bruce King contributed to the Squirrel Hill win with a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Gwinnett manager Clarence Sloan. "The effort was great."
