Zapata Whacks 2 Home Runs in 7-0 Win
|
The Asheville Highlanders beat the Vancouver Vipers, 7-0, at Vipers Ballpark. Jorge Zapata, who is tied for 3rd in the SAA in triples with 4, starred for Asheville. He went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Vince Moran, who is tied for 9th in the SAA in holds with 4, was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. The Vipers, now 50-47, have lost 4 straight.
With Asheville leading 4-0 in the top of the ninth, Zapata batted against Vancouver pitcher Adam Hill. Zapata hit a fastball to right for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Highlanders on top, 7-0.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Zapata.
