St. Petersburg first baseman Carl Flowers made his presence felt in the 5-4 Thunder triumph over the Squirrel Hill Pierogis. Flowers was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs. Mike Parkinson nailed down his 1st save. The 9th-place Thunder hiked their record to 43-55.

St. Petersburg used the timely hitting of Marcus Holmes to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Thunder on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

St. Petersburg manager Alejandro Mingo commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
