Rainbow Mermaids Topple Bullets, 7-2, as Murphy Shines
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Baltimore Bullets, 7-2, at Baltimore Grounds. Northern Virginia left fielder James Murphy had a superb performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Chris Jackson, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-1. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Baltimore now is 2-7.
Murphy contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Northern Virginia in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Murphy took a fastball from Cheol-han Cho and stroked the home run to right. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Rainbow Mermaids to leap in front, 4-2.
"James is still learning," said Rainbow Mermaids manager David Lister. "The sky's the limit for him."
