Saboteurs Take Tight Tangle
|
Marquette got a terrific performance from pitcher Dave Roberts, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toledo Saboteurs. Toledo won the Toledo Backyard Park contest, 3-2. Roberts threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Toledo reliever Tyrone Maxwell picked up the win to move to 1-0. Sam Myers suffered the loss. Juan Soto recorded the save for Toledo, his 2nd of the season.
Had Carlos Alvarado not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Alvarado hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Saboteurs.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Saboteurs manager Rodney Dudley.
Toledo goes to 2-3.
