Guinea Pigs Clip Atoms, 7-6
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs scored a tight, 7-6 win versus the Bethesda Atoms at Experimental Stadium. Gwinnett pitcher Jeff Bean held his own in the contest. Bean, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. Matt Griffin closed it out for Gwinnett, earning his 4th save.
Gwinnett got a big at-bat from Carrollton, Texas native Nick Tobías, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 2-1.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Bean.
Gwinnett, now 6-2, is playing great baseball to start the year.
