Saunders Shines in 9-3 Toledo Win
|
The Toledo Stingers pinned a convincing loss on the Toronto Thunder, 9-3, at Thunder Field. Joe Saunders was a main factor in the win. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Toledo. The winning pitcher was Al Moore. His record now stands at 2-1. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits for the Stingers. Picking up his 1st save was reigning Gold Ball winner Jorge Souza.
Toledo used the timely hitting of John Myers Myers to capture the win. The shortstop socked a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Stingers ahead, 8-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Saunders told the Toledo Times. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The Toledo winning streak has reached 3 games.
