Pierogis Squelch Screaming Eagles Offense in Shutout Win
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Mercer Island Screaming Eagles.

The Squirrel Hill Pierogis defeated the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 4-0, in USPL Double A action at Mercer Island Grounds. Squirrel Hill pitcher Sean Jones had a standout performance. George Harris picked up the save, his 1st.

Larry English had a big 2-run home run for the Pierogis in the top of the fifth inning. With Squirrel Hill leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from former first round draft pick Cordell Dawson and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Pierogis on top, 3-0.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Mercer Island skipper Eric Todd, "and it cost us."

Mercer Island, with the loss, is 2-8.
