Liberty Academy Score Late to Nip Mariachis, 3-2
|
The Philadelphia Liberty Academy topped the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, 3-2, in USPL Double A action at Liberty Academy Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Philadelphia pitcher Javier Salinas. Philadelphia reliever Jimmy Bailey got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Xing-fu Weng was tagged with the loss. Tanzan Jouda got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Had Jim Alexander not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Alexander hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Liberty Academy.
"We busted our tails," said Nuevo Mexico manager Allen Carlson. "But we came up short."
With the loss, Nuevo Mexico sinks to 8-6.
