Pierogis Win at Philadelphia, 5-0
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis knocked off the Philadelphia Liberty Academy, 5-0, in USPL Double A action at Liberty Academy Field. Squirrel Hill pitcher and Fukaya, Japan, native Hiroya Suzuki had an outstanding performance. Suzuki, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing no runs. The Liberty Academy fall to 7-9 and continue their sputtering start to the 2063 season.
Squirrel Hill used a well-timed hit by Guillermo Rodríguez to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pierogis ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Squirrel Hill manager Luis Pamparacuatro commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
