Vipers Defeated, 8-5, After Chesapeake Rallies
|
The Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas overcame a good performance by Vancouver center fielder Oliver Garden to knock off Vancouver, 8-5, at Vipers Ballpark. Garden was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 23-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Deleón in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Floyd Seymour took the loss. David Adelabu earned the save, his 3rd.
Chesapeake used a clutch hit from Danny Belcher to get the win. The left fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cangrejos Fantasmas ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
Belcher was taciturn after the game. "A win's a win," he said.
The Cangrejos Fantasmas, now 12-5, have hit the ground running this season.
