Mariachis Pull Out Late Win, 3-2
|
The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis found a way to sneak past the Olympia Ogres, 3-2, in 10 innings. Nuevo Mexico pitcher John Schneider, for one, had a standout performance. Burt Dickerson, now 2-0, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The Mariachis, now 14-4, have been on fire in the early going.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Nuevo Mexico third baseman Lawrence Boone, facing Jeff Rodríguez, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Mariachis the 3-2 win.
"I liked his command," said Nuevo Mexico manager Allen Carlson. "John was throwing strikes."
