Miners Come Up Short at Mercer Island, 5-4
Mercer Island picked up a win at Mercer Island Grounds, bumping off the Marquette Miners, 5-4. Pitcher Rick Burnett was a major reason the Screaming Eagles emerged victorious. Manny Sexton recorded the save for Mercer Island, his 2nd of the season. The Screaming Eagles are off to an underwhelming start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 7th win in 19 games.

Pedro Cortés, the Mercer Island right fielder, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 4-1, Screaming Eagles. For the game, Cortés was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
