Mariachis 6-2 Winners Versus Vancouver
|
Marty Collins, who is rated as the 37th best prospect by BNN, was locked in. The right-hander led the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis to a 6-2 win against the Vancouver Vipers at Mariachi Band Shell. Collins, now 3-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The Mariachis raised their record to 11-9.
The Vipers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Mariachis going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old catcher Jorge Cordero came to the plate. Cordero hit a run-scoring double on a 2-0 cutter from Vancouver hurler Jerry Anderson. It was Cordero's 1st double of the year.
"Marty was in tempo tonight," said Nuevo Mexico skipper Andrés Ventura.
