A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Vancouver Vipers and Nuevo Mexico Mariachis.
The 6-3 Vancouver win over Nuevo Mexico was due in large part to Ilija Maric. The Vipers catcher went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. The winning pitcher was Marc Maxwell. His record now stands at 2-1. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits for the Vipers.
A key moment came with two out in the top of the seventh. That's when Maric hit a knuckle curve from Burt Dickerson for a 2-run single, putting Vancouver up, 6-3.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Maric.
Nuevo Mexico, with the loss, is still a stout 15-5.
